Manawa summer rec softball teams traveled to Bowler Wednesday, June 16, and came home with two wins. The girls picked up a win and a loss at Marion Monday, June 21.
In the older girls game, Baylee Gorges pitched all five innings with nine strikeouts. It was a good team win as every girl got on base. All-star hitters were Megan Schuelke with a single to drive in two runs, McKenzie Zielke with a double to drive in two runs, Aubrie Millard with four singles, Katie Velie with three singles, and Sam Johnson and Jordyn Sachtjen with a double.
In the younger girls game, Morgyn Zielke pitched all five innings with 12 strikeouts. Once again every girl was able to reach base. Ellen Field and Lesley Wilz had nice defensive plays to get runners out at first base, and Skye Amador did a great job catching. All-star hitters were Wilz with two singles and Taylor Schuelke with a double.
In the older girls game, Lexie Sell pitched the first four innings with seven strikeouts and Gorges pitched the last two innings with four strikeouts. Manawa scored in the fourth inning when Lexie Sell had a nice hit to bring in runs, but it wasn’t enough to stop the strong Marion team. All-star hitters were Bobbi Sell with a double, and Sachtjen, Johnson and Zielke all with singles.
The younger girls won a very close hard-battled game. Chloe Koehn pitched the first three innings with five strikeouts and McKenzie Zielke pitched the last two innings with six strikeouts. All-star hitters were Carlee Zander with a double, and Zielke, Amador, Taylor Stuebs and Wilz all with singles.
