Hartvig, Charles D.

Charles D. Hartvig, age 95, of Iola, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Ellefson House in Iola. He was born on March 12, 1915, in Iola, son of the late Theodore and Marie (Pederson) Hartvig. Charles graduated from Iola High School. He was on the 1934 basketball team that went to the Wisconsin State Basketball Tournament. He graduated from Central State Teachers College in 1938. He was an Army WWII veteran having served in Central Europe and the Rhineland Theater. Charles taught life sciences and biology at I-S High School, was a milk hauler for Morning Glory for 17 years, and a bookkeeper for Carl Waller’s service station. He loved to travel and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Sons of Norway-Norskeland Lodge 5-580, Norskeland Dancers, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Choir, Iola Historical Society, and the American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post # 14 of Iola. He is survived nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Charles was preceded in death by 6 sisters: Klara Carley Johnson, Ruth Hartvig, Ruby Taylor, Theresa Loken, Leona Hartvig, and Alpha Bakeng; 3 brothers: Orin, Allen, and Herbert Hartvig.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola with the Rev. Dennis Olson officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment of cremains will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.
