On a beautiful night for racing, GSR Kartway was back in full swing Wednesday night, July 28. Brodie Braun led the first three laps of the Kiddie Karts feature before giving up the lead to Jamozzy Skenandore. Braun didn’t give up, staying right on Skenandore’s rear bumper for the next several laps. A caution with three laps remaining slowed the action. Coming to the checkered flag on the final lap Skenandore won the race by half a kart length.
In the Rookie Box Stock feature Matthew Radtke jumped out to the early lead over Elly Arndt, Max Oreskovich, Jeffery Teske and Jayden Schmidt. Oreskovich moved to second on lap five, which was then followed by a caution. On the restart, Oreskovich used an outside pass in turn one to take the lead. Another caution a few laps later slowed the action. Oreskovich led the rest of the way to take the win.
Zachery Nelson took control of the Box Stock feature on the opening lap with Ethan Olson, Connor Wilinski, Dakota Kallas and Gabe McCarty following. As the laps progressed Nelson pulled away from the field and Wilinski grabbed the second spot midway through the race. There was no denying Nelson, though, as he cruised to the win.
In the Racing for Education feature, Hunter Tietz led the first two laps of the race but succumbed to Logan Griffin on lap three. Griffin immediately began to pull away from the field leaving Tietz, Carlos Enanorado, Grant Strugill and Kaleb Vander Heyden following. Chase Maney joined the top five midway through the race. Griffin was the star of the race, cruising to the win.
Garret Strachota used his front row starting spot to grab the early lead in the Controlled Stock feature with Matt Rohde, Jordan Bartz, Mason Woods and Maria Steinke following. Bartz moved to second on the second lap and set her sights on Strachota. With the laps dwindling, Bartz began gaining on Strachota and caught him with two laps remaining. Strachota was up to the challenge, and held on for the win.
In the Junior II feature Wyatt Blashe jumped out to the quick lead followed by Taylor Arndt, Pierce Kauth, Lucas Lamberies and Rachel Kallas. Two caution flags over the next few laps slowed the action. Blashe continued to lead on the restart and immediately began to pull away from the rest of the field. Blashe crossed the finish line first, sweeping the night of racing in the division.
Brandon Grendzinski took the lead over Cody Schroeder, Brock Saunders, Hunter Parsons and Carter Kauth in the Junior III feature on the opening lap. Parsons fell to fifth a couple laps later. Schroeder tried to chase Grendzinski down during the waning laps of the race, but to no avail.
Dale Alger led all 15 laps of the Animal Pro feature to take the win over Cami Alger.
Andy Mares and Todd Schertz battled closely through the first half of the Lawn Mower feature. Schertz eventually developed problems and was forced to retire from the race with five laps remaining. This gave the second spot to Aaron Mares. It was all Andy Mares at the end, as he raced to the win.
GSR Kartway has added three additional nights of racing to its 2010 schedule in an attempt to make up some of the rained out weeks earlier in the season. The next racing night at GSR Kartway will be Monday, Aug. 2. GSR Kartway will then continue its racing season on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Racing starts at 7 p.m. both nights.
