Chet Krause sells jeep collection

Military jeeps from Chet Krause’s collection will be put on the auction block at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13.

The event kicks off the 2010 Iola Vintage Military and Gun Show with vintage tractors and equipment set for Aug. 14-15.

Aumann Auctions is handling the sale of 25 different military jeeps from the Krause Collection. Among those being offered is a Ford GPW World War II amphibious jeep. This is probably the best amphibious jeep known after undergoing a several hundred thousand dollar restoration.

Iola native Chet Krause has displayed military vehicles at the Iola Military Show since its inception.

The 19th annual Iola Vintage Military and Gun Show with vintage tractors and equipment will have many activities for entertainment and a variety of collector’s interests. The show is held on the Iola Old Car Show grounds located on the east side of the village of Iola.

The show displays the important role military veterans and their equipment have made for peace and freedom in history.

Encampments, set up near the swap area, will include re-enactors and weapon demonstrations.

The show will include the popular World War II battle re-enactments on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, plus a Vietnam re-enactment Saturday afternoon. All re-enactments take place in the area southeast of the tower.

A variety of guns and gun-related items will be displayed in an indoor exhibit.

Presenters include Walter Auer, who served with the German Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front during World War II and has written a book The Way We Actually Were – Memories of a German Soldier, World War II & Beyond. Christine Miller will talk about her book Campaign in the East, which was compiled from the diary of her father, Heinz Postenrieder, who also served on the Eastern Front during World War II.

A USO-type show will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Opening the show will be Fashions of the Time with volunteers and re-enactors wearing uniforms and dress of a time long ago. The Justmann Band will play background music and swing right into a big-band show “Moonlight Serenade.” A dinner is offered for an additional charge from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Daily gate admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Admission includes the USO-type show.

The 2011 dates are Aug. 13-14.
