The Board of Nursing has revoked the license of Kristin K. Carlson to work as a registered nurse.
In a decision on July 22, BON noted that in February 2006, Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca found discrepancies in Carlson’s charting and morphine-related documentation. The morphine was reported missing from the facility where she worked as a registered nurse. Carlson’s employment was suspended pending an investigation and later terminated due to failure to provide a urine specimen required for the investigation.
In 2007, while Carlson was a registered nurse on the mental health floor at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, she reportedly diverted Demerol (meperidine) from her employer and admitted she took over 40 syringes of meperidine for her own personal use.
Carlson did not have a prescription and pleadedf no contest to a felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs. She was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of possession of a prescription drug by fraud, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft. She entered into a deferred prosecution agreement on the felony charge, which was later dismissed. Carlson was placed on probation for two years, with six months in jail as a condition of probation.
Carlson failed to participate in the proceedings against her, resulting in a default in disciplinary actions. She is ordered to pay the cost of proceedings to DRL. Her privileges to practice as a registered nurse are revoked. Carlson may not reapply for licensure for at least one year.
