Peters receives volleyball honor

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Renee Peters of Weyauwega was recently named an honorable mention all-UMAC volleyball player.

Peters, who plays for Martin Luther College in St. Paul, Minn., and played high school volleyball at Appleton’s Fox Valley Lutheran, is one of two MLC players to receive all-UMAC recognition. She was a two-time winner of the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week Award during the season and finished with a team-high 485 digs (third most in the UMAC), 538 service receptions and 29 aces.

The team is also one of 75 NCAA Division III teams to receive the 2010 AVCA Team Academic Award. Teams must have a grade-point average of 3.3 or better. This past season, the Knights posted a team GPA of 3.44.

“I’m very proud of the girls for the effort they put into the classroom, as well as on the court,” coach Rebecca Cox said.

MLC will compete Sept. 17-18 in a tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. This is Peters’ fourth season with the team. She is a 2007 graduate of FVL and the daughter of Scott and Cheryl Peters of Weyauwega.
