Comet netters lose a pair

Little Chute and Winneconne picked up recent Eastern Valley Conference volleyball wins over Waupaca.

Little Chute took three of four games from the Comets Sept. 16, while Winneconne swept Waupaca Sept. 14.

The Mustangs handed the Comets 25-12 and 25-22 losses in Little Chute, but Waupaca came back to win the third game, 27-25. The Mustangs sealed the win with a 25-14 win in the fourth game.

Nicole Donaldson and Meghan Plunkett had 12 assists to lead Waupaca, while Kristen Fuss led the team with 10 kills and Taylor Grenlie had a team-high 32 digs.

Winneconne defeated Waupaca 25-18, 26-24 and 25-16.

Team leaders included Grenlie with 15 digs, Carli Navin with seven kills, Plunkett with 13 assists and Hannah Butkiewicz with three aces.

The Comets will host Ripon at 7 tonight (Thursday) for Parents’ Night before heading to Abbotsford for Saturday’s Abbotsford Invitational. Waupaca will also play at Clintonville Thursday, Sept. 30.
