The Waupaca volleyball team placed third at Saturday’s Bud Nelson Invitational in Abbotsford and also picked up its first Eastern Valley Conference win of the season over Ripon.
At Abbotsford, the Comets posted a 5-2 record on the day. Spencer won the eight-team tournament with a 7-0 record, while Abbotsford was second at 6-1.
Waupaca swept Ripon 25-21, 25-16, 25-13 Sept. 23.
Team leaders included Kristen Fuss with nine kills and 13 digs; Marisa Webb and Carli Navin with five kills each; Hannah Butkiewicz with four kills and four aces; Taylor Grenlie with one kill and 14 digs; Nicole Donaldson with 17 assists; and Meghan Plunkett with 15 assists.
The Comets will head to Clintonville tonight (Thursday) for a 7 p.m. conference match with the Truckers and travel to Howard for Saturday’s Bay Port Invitational, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Waupaca’s next home match is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, against Berlin.
