Bulldogs keep momentum going against La Crosse Central

LA CROSSE – The New London Bulldogs made the long 3 and half hour road trip worth while after closing a 20-18 Victory over the Red Raiders in a non-conference match up last Saturday.

“We fought very hard and were able to overcome our mistakes to beat a good football team,” said Head New London Football Coach Pete Mroczynski. “We are starting to take care of the little things on the field, which end up being important things.”

Central started with the ball but didn’t get too far before the Bulldog defense forced them to punt.

On the ensuing punt return, Bulldog Tyler Listle found a hole and returned it 78 yards for the touchdown. With the extra point New London was up 7-0.

In the second quarter the Red Raiders answered with a 35 yard touchdown run by Hunter Lange, the two point conversion pass was incomplete and the Bulldogs still led 7-6.

Central got close to the end zone but fumbled the ball on the Bulldog’s four yard line. Ethan Thiel made the recovery for New London. The score remained that 7-6 through halftime.

In the third quarter, New London stepped up the running game with precision blocking and good running by both CJ Anderson and Jordan Schuh.

New London scored in first in the second half after a CJ Anderson 11 yard touchdown run.

The extra point was blocked, and the bulldogs led 13-6.

The next offensive drive for the Red Raiders was set up by Zach Stoflet who ran it in from one yard for the touchdown while the 2 point conversion failed.

The bulldogs still led 13-12.

New London once again turned to CJ Anderson to set up the next score for a nine yard touchdown run extending their lead to 20-13 with the extra point.

On the ensuing kickoff Central’s Zach Stoflet returned it for 82 yards into the end zone for the touchdown to shorten that lead to 20-18. Central again attempted a two point conversion which was good yet over turned due to a holding call that moved the ball back even further. The second attempt failed and the Red Raiders came up short.

The Bulldogs kept the ball once more but punted it away to the Red Raiders. The game ended three plays later when Peyton Hofherr picked off Central Quarterback Zach Woods.

The Bulldogs ran time off the clock and eventually punted it back to Central. The drive for Central ended four plays later after Bulldog Austin Postel sacked Central’s backup quarterback Carson Hackett for a three yard loss.
