Chiefs shut down Indians’ offense

SHIOCTON – Shiocton shut down Weyauwega-Fremont’s offense and took advantage of three interceptions Friday in a 39-0 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference football win over the Indians.

The host Chiefs took a 17-0 lead at halftime on Talon Heinemeyer’s touchdown passes of 25 yards to Sean Klemp and 27 yards to Charlie Van Straten and Andrew Hoersch’s 20-yard field goal.

Shiocton added two scores in the third quarter on Hunter Young’s 1-yard run and Heinemeyer’s 6-yard pass to Fred Fielding.

A safety and Fielding’s 2-yard run in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

“Not a good night,” coach Tom Chase said. “After a scoreless first 16 minutes of the game, Shiocton took control of the game as our offense sputtered, giving Shiocton a short field to work with for most of the rest of the game.”

Shiocton outgained the Indians 188-114 on the ground and 76-22 through the air.

Casey Haase led the Indians with 36 yards in 11 attempts.

Leading tacklers for the Indians included Eric Jorgenson with 11; Tommy Meehan with nine; Trevor Potratz and Cam Looker with eight; and Mike Nelson, Haase and Brad Hanson with six.

Both teams are now 2-2 in conference play. The Indians fell to 4-2 overall, while the Chiefs improved to 3-3. W-F will host Stevens Point Pacelli at 7 p.m. Friday for Homecoming.
