Virgil J. Wadleigh, age 76, of Clintonville, passed away Friday morning, October 1, 2010, at the St. Joseph Residence in New London. Virgil was born on November 26, 1933, in Beaver Dam, WI, as the son of the late Burton and Marie (Slovitcz) Wadleigh. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1951 and attended UW-Eau Claire, UW-Madison, and the University of Minnesota. Virgil began his teach
ing career in 1956 in Greenwood and later taught in Colfax. It was also at this time that he served his country in the United States Army from August of 1956 through June of 1958. Upon his discharge from service, Virgil continued in his educational career as an administrator for the Winneconne School District and later the Clintonville School District. It was while he was a principal at Winneconne that he met Sandee Zingler. The couple then married at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Oshkosh on June 11, 1966. Many area residents will remember him for his “clowning around” as he enjoyed dressing up as a clown for local parades and activities. Obviously Virgil was a dedicated member of his church and community, but he was also a dedicated husband and father and enjoyed any time spent with family and friends.
