Lady Trucks stop Marines, lose to Irish

The Clintonville Lady Trucker volleyball team won their first match of Regionals against Marinette, winning in three games by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-15.

Brittany Hoffman led the Lady Trucks with seven kills, five ace serves and four digs. Erin Richter added six kills and five ace serves. Nikki Kautz contributed 21 assists, while Karena Schroeder hammered out eight ace serves.

“Tonight was a good confidence builder for us going into the tournament,” said Coach Katie Ripley. “We had a rough week last week and it’s good to get a win under our belt before moving forward. Good job Truckers!”

The team lost in the second round of Regionals to a tough Freedom Irish team, by scores of 18-25, 20-25, 12-25.

Hoffman hammered out seven kills and two ace serves, while Nicole Hanson added four kills. Schroeder had 12 digs and two ace serves, while Kautz added 14 assists.

“Freedom most shut us down with their big blocks,” said Coach Katie Ripley. “They were always in our face and we started to hit the ball over any way we could which made it much harder for us to score. Our defense did a good job with passing and with movement on the court but it was our net play that hurt us in the end. Thanks to all the girls for a good season and for all the parents support. We all appreciate everyone who contributed to our season.”
