Phyllis J. Smith, age 89, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010. Phyllis was born on October 24, 1921, in Huron, South Dakota, daughter of the late George and Bernice (Ferry) Groves. She lived in the Gilman, WI area as a child. On December 8, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond Smith. He preceded her in death in 1982. They lived in the Royalton area for 39 years. She was in farming most of her life. Phyllis was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church, Clintonville and loved attending. Her hobbies included gardening, and making pies and peanut brittle for her church. She is survived by four children, Evelyn (Fred) Pagles, New London; Lila (George) Derks, New London; Dennis (Debra) Smith, New London and Alene (Duane) Bidwell, Racine. A brother, Orlo (Dona) Groves, Birnamwood and a sister, Elaine Emry, Sand Point, Idaho. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband Phyllis was preceded in death by a brother, Irving. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010, at Calvary Apostolic Church, Clintonville at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Soto and Rev. Sylvester Narlock officiating. Burial will be in the Hobart Cemetery, Royalton. Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 12 (Noon) until the time of service.
