Stilen, Clara A.

Clara A. Stilen, age 86, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully with family at her side singing hymns on Sunday afternoon, November 7, 2010, at the New London Family Medical Center. Clara was born on August 24, 1924, in the Township of Matteson, Waupaca County. She was the daughter of the late William and Geneva (Hansen) Doehling. Clara grew up in Clintonville where she graduated High School in 1942 and was later united in marriage to Merlin Stilen on November 6, 1943 in Clintonville. The couple resided in Milwaukee a short while and in 1946 moved to Bear Creek, then New London, and in 1956 the couple began farming in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County where Clara enjoyed spending time with the farm animals. Clara had also been employed in Clintonville at the shoe factory as well as the Hansen Glove Factory for a number of years. Merlin preceded his wife in death on February 22, 1986. Clara was a current member of the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville where she was baptized on September 28, 1924, confirmed on June 6, 1937, married, and a longtime member of the Christus Lutheran Church Women. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, and sing. She had quite a green thumb and enjoyed her flower garden and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew in her garden. Survivors include: 4 Daughters: Sandra (Terance) Wendt, Manawa. Judy (David) Draheim, Kiel. Diana (Dennis) Eastman, New London. Kathleen (Gerard) Rohan, Clintonville. Her Son: John (Amy) Stilen, Columbus, GA. 25 Grandchildren & 59 Great-Grandchildren & 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. 5 Step-Grandchildren & 9 Step-Great-Grandchildren & 2 Step-Great-Great-Grandchildren. Her Brother: Theodore (Marion) Doehling, Larson. Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Merlin, a granddaughter; Kelly Lynn Zehren, a great-grandson, Gideon Holbrook, her son-in-law; Charles Strong, a brother; Herbert Doehling, and 3 sisters; Florence Hansen, Donnabell Braun, & Gladys Henn. Funeral services will be held Thursday November 11, 2010 at 10 AM at the Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Brian Crocker & Rev. Brian Nehring officiating. Interment will follow at the Graceland Cemetery also in Clintonville. Friends may call at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville from 5 – 8 PM Wednesday and at the church on Thursday from 9 AM until the time of the service.
