Pearl Harbor Day remembered

The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King will host a ceremony to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Marden Memorial Center.

The Waupaca High School band will perform under the direction of Mark Kryshak. WHS students Stanford Mitchell and Kierstan Leaf will sound taps.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home King Honor Guard and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Military Funeral Honors Team will post colors.

John F. Weindorfer Sr., who was aboard the USS Cassin during the attack on Pearl Harbor will speak.

Secretary Ken Black, of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, will be the keynote speaker. Black served 22 years on active duty with the U.S. Army.

“Much of what our country and our lives are like today were shaped by events that occurred on De. 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor,” said Black. “I ask all citizens to remember the strength and courage of all of our military men and women who served then and who currently are serving in the United States Armed Forces.”
