Leon J. Bechard, age 90, New London, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010. Leon was born on May 19, 1920, in Bear Creek, son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Spence) Bechard. He was a 1939 graduate of Bear Creek High School. On August 29, 1941, he was united in marriage to Bernice Woodward in New London. Leon worked at FWD in Clintonville for 7 years and was the active Post Master in Bear Creek from 1954 to 1957. He also drove school bus in the Bear Creek school district for 10 years. He worked at Curwood in New London for 17 1/2 years retiring in 1983. Leon owned and operated the Bechard Service Station in Bear Creek until 1994. He was very proud of being a volunteer firefighter in Bear Creek for 63 years. Leon is survived by his children: Dennis (Lois) Bechard, Waupaca; Connie (Jack) Lehman, Appleton; Thomas (Sue) Bechard, Wautoma; and Debra Bechard, Waupaca. A brother, Rex (Alice) Bechard, Wild Rose; two sisters, Fern Paul, Greenville and Elaine Bechard, West Bend; a sister-in-law, Avis Thull, Florida. Grandchildren: Scott (Martha) Bechard, Steve (Lisa) Bechard, Jeffrey (Dawn) Lehman, Todd (Mary) Lehman, Brian Lehman, Craig (Andrea) Lehman, Deb (Larry) Van Straten, Mark Bechard, Chris Pelkey and Brittany Timm. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Leon will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London with Rev. Dr. Charles Tews officiating. Interment will be held in Union Cemetery, Wild Rose. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home and also on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
