Hill, Alfred

Alfred Frederick Hill, age 82, of New London, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010, at St. Joseph Residence in New London with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 9, 1928, in Rhinelander, son of the late John and Gertrude (Moon) Hill. He married the love of his life Opal Martha Salaman. They had just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on September 2, 2010. Al was very proud of his Native American and Finnish heritage. He belonged to the Stockbridge Munsee band of the Mohicans. Al was a member of the Mohican Veterans. At Pow Wows he carried the Commemorative Staff. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 263. Al was always doing something to show his heritage by making dream catchers and being a storyteller. Al was a New London Policeman for 5 years, and a salesman for Hoffer Glass. He owned and operated A & L Mini Tours with his wife for many years. Al is survived by his heart broken wife of 60 years, Opal; six children: Elizabeth (John) Faskell, Pamela Giesen, John (Trudy), Kathleen Hill, Cindy Jo (Mark) Harless, David (Mary) Hill, Cindy Lou Johnson; 27 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister: Ina Taylor; brother: Andrew Hill; sister-in-law: Wanda Hill; brothers-in-law: James Salaman and Eric Hays. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons, Chuck, Mario and Bob; 2 daughters: Donna and Cathy Marie; brother William; his in-laws Erwin and Pearl Salaman, brother-in-law Richard Salaman and sons-in-law Scott Olson and Richard Sweedy. The Funeral Mass for Al was held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London with Fr. David Lewis officiating. Burial was in Floral Hill Cemetery. Friends called at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
