WMS choirs present holiday concert

The seventh- and eighth-grade choirs will present a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Waupaca Middle School auditorium.

The program will feature the mixed choirs, brioso chorale (women’s choir), EPIC (men’s choir), and FIZZ vocal jazz.

Under the direction of Laurel Leder, the groups will perform songs and carols from Japan, Sicily, Germany, Spain and America. There will be songs about Hanukkah and African-American spirituals.

The seventh-grade mixed choir will also sing “Festival Sanctus,” which was used at the 2010 Honor’s Choir. The eighth-grade mixed choir will perform “Season of Joy” from the Disney movie “Santa Buddies.” This piece is sung in French, Japanese and Spanish, as well as English.

For the first time FIZZ vocal jazz will show off its talents in a show choir format. With choreography by former middle school choir alum Molly Doray, the students have put together a medley of songs including “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Holly Jolly Christmas,” and “Let it Snow.”

Barb Kirk and Wanda Eikenbary, joined by other instrumentalists from the middle school band department, will accompany the choirs.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors to the auditorium will open at 7:05 p.m.
