Danielsen, Marie

Marie Danielsen, 102, a resident of Bethany Home in Wau-paca, died there Saturday evening, December 11, 2010. Marie was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, July 7, 1908 to Martinus and Maren (Urup) Jepsen. Her family returned to Denmark for a few years before immigrating to the United States in 1913, settling in Racine, Wisconsin. She graduated from the public schools in Racine and attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska for one year before returning home to care for her mother who was sick with tuberculosis. She married Reuben Danielsen of Waupaca on July 6, 1940 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. He preceded her in death in 1989. Marie enjoyed golfing, being with her family, and doing for others. She was an avid reader and bridge player. She was active in her church, and served it by teaching Sunday school, and participating in Ladies Aide as well as in church circles. For many years she and Reuben enjoyed strong fellowship and support from friends in their Cork-and-Fork group. Marie was also a cancer survivor. She was an excellent cook, and was always interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all. She and Reuben raised three children; James (Ellen) Danielsen of Sheboygan, Mary Ellen Boario of Waupaca, and Janice (Jay) Richards of Waupaca. She is further survived by eight grandchildren; Peter (Kelly) Danielsen, Jeff (Michelle) Danielsen, Timothy Danielsen, Andrew (Rachel) Boario, Marne (Randall) Fox, Jason Richards, Ryan (Jen) Richards, and Caryn (Nic) Sparacio. Marie was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren: Jacob and Kaitlyn Danielsen; Emelia Danielsen; Ava and Ella Boario; Trevor and Brendon Fox; Alyssa and Joseph Sparacio; Ethan Richards; and Finnley Richards. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law; Tom Boario, two sisters; Anna Andersen and Ellen Hansen, and a brother; Hans Jepsen. A Memorial service for the residents of Bethany Home will be held at Bethany Home in Waupaca on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 3:00 PM. A Funeral service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:30 AM, with the Rev. Fred Lueders, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials can be directed to Bethany Home of Waupaca or to The Milwaukee Library for the Blind in memory of Marie Danielsen.
