Indians roll over T-Bird girls

The Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team picked up a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win Friday, Dec. 17, with a 53-17 win over Iola-Scandinavia.

The Indians also dropped a 45-42 nonconference decision to North Fond du Lac Tuesday, Dec. 14.

The Indians outscored the Thunderbirds 17-4 in the first quarter, 12-4 in the second, 8-7 in the third and 16-2 in the fourth.

The T-Birds hit only five or 31 shots, while the Indians connected on 21 of 40. W-F also had a 19-3 advantage in assists and a 28-17 advantage in rebounds.

Danielle Johnson scored eight of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter to lead the Indians and was the only player to finish in double figures.

Mary Marx led the T-Birds with five points.

A pair of low-scoring quarters hurt the Indians in a loss to the Orioles.

North Fond du Lac trailed 18-11 heading into the second quarter, but outscored the Indians 10-3 over the next eight minutes and the teams went into the locker room at halftime tied at 21-21.

W-F outscored the visitors 15-11 in the third quarter, but was outscored 13-6 in the fourth quarter.

Mariah Hulbert and Johnson led the Indians with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Weyauwega-Fremont High School will host an eight-team tournament Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 29-30.

Varsity and junior varsity teams from W-F, Mosinee, Algoma and Winneconne will compete.

The schedule for Dec. 29 is W-F varsity vs. Mosinee varsity in the high school gym, 4 p.m.; Algoma JV vs. Winneconne JV in the middle school gym, 4 p.m.; Algoma varsity vs. Winneconne varsity in the high school gym, 6 p.m.; and W-F JV vs. Mosinee JV in the middle school gym, 6 p.m.

Games set for Dec. 30 are varsity consolation game in the high school gym, 4 p.m.; JV consolation game in the middle school gym, 4 p.m.; varsity championship game in the high school gym, 6 p.m.; and JV championship in the middle school gym, 6 p.m.
