W-F girls sting Hornets

The Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team picked up a 66-49 nonconference win Tuesday, Dec. 21, over Wautoma.

The Indians built a 29-22 halftime lead after outscoring the Hornets 13-7 in the first quarter and 16-15 in the second. A 17-9 advantage in the third quarter gave W-F a 46-31 lead heading into the final period and the Indians outscored Wautoma 20-18 over the final eight minutes.

Four players finished in double figures for the Indians. Danielle Johnson led the way with 14 points, while Mariah Hulbert added 12, Macey Schoenick scored 11 and Jenni Hellweg chipped in with 10.

The Indians’ varsity and junior varsity teams are hosting a four-team tournament Wednesday, Dec. 29, and today (Thursday, Dec. 30). W-F opened the tournament Dec. 29 by playing Mosinee and will play Algoma or Winneconne at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. today. Varsity games are played in the high school gym, while JV games are being played in the middle school gym.

The Indians will return to Central Wisconsin 8 Conference action Friday, Jan. 7, at Shiocton.
