Waupaca man charged with felony bail jumping

Keith E. Johnson, 53, Waupaca, was charged Dec. 20 with felony bail jumping.

On Dec. 2, Johnson appeared in court and entered pleas of no contest to the misdemeanor charges of battery, fourth-degree sexual assault and obstructing an officer in a domestic abuse complaint. Judge John Hoffmann placed Johnson on two years of probation.

Hoffmann also approved the district attorney’s deferred prosecution agreement with Johnson on a felony second-degree sexual assault charge. The judge withheld judgment on the felony charge on the condition that Johnson comply with the conditions of his bond and maintain absolute sobriety.

On Dec. 18, Waupaca police were called out to Johnson’s home after his girlfriend reported that they had a fight.

When the officers arrived, the girlfriend and Johnson denied that anything physical had happened between them. Police also found several cans of beer on the table near where Johnson was sitting. He admitted to drinking four beers, according to the criminal complaint.
