Brooks, Frances M.

Frances M. Brooks, age 94, of Weyauwega, died on Sunday, January 2, 2010 at the Weyauwega Health Care Center. She was born on October 3, 1916, in the Town of Fremont, the daughter of the late Ray and Minnie (Stange) Brooks. Frances received her BA from Oshkosh Normal School in 1945. She taught for the Appleton School District for 25 years, and during that time, Frances set up the Library System, for the school district. In 1957, Frances received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from George Peabody College for Teaching. She then taught for two years in Boulder, CO, before moving to Gillette, WY, where she taught for eight years, before retiring from the Campbell County School System. Frances was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega. She enjoyed traveling the world, reading, gambling and flowers. Frances is survived by two nieces, Barbara (LeRoy) Bartel, Neenah and Kathleen Anderson, Waupaca; a nephew. Robert “Butch” (Jeanne) Kiekhafer, Fremont; many great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Frances was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Kiekhafer and Dorothy Brooks. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega. Rev. Sherwood McKay will officiate. A memorial fund has been established for the Weymont Food Pantry.
