CWIRA ice racing opens in Fremont

The Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Association is coming to Fremont’s Partridge Lake Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8-9, for the first round of a 10-race season.

CWIRA is a motorcycle and ATV racing organization that sanctions racing events throughout Wisconsin. Amateur and pro racers will compete in 28 different classes.

Racers and spectators will not be disappointed, according to seven-time CWIRA champion Jim Falke.

“Its truly the best racing in the Midwest,” he said. “CWIRA has 28 very competitive classes, some of which has as many as 30 riders in it.”

Since this is the first race of the series, racers will try to get a jump on their competition, which always makes for great competition.

CWIRA will also be a part of the Fire On Ice program Saturday, Feb. 13, in Weyauwega, so local racers will be trying to shine.

Local favorites include the Baehnman clan: Noah and Austin on their ATVs in the Junior Class and Collin and Caleb in the Pee-Wee Class. Meanwhile, Zac Miller and Falke will spin their wheels in the very fast Pro-am Rubber Class and Al Falke and Chad Hartfiel will compete in the Stock Rubber Class.

Sign-up for the races will be held at 8 a.m., with practice starting at 9 a.m. Racing action will start at 11 a.m. and continue until late in the afternoon.

The cost for spectators is $5 and children under 12 are admitted free. Access to the races will be through Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Fremont.

Race sponsors include Ted’s Grandview Supper Club, Fremont; Captain Jack’s Rentals, Fremont; T.I.S. Insurance, Weyauwega; Action Sports, Menasha; Hitching Post, Weyauwega; Goode’s Inn, West Bloomfield; Whitefield Industrial Coatings, Green Bay; Janssen Motorsports, Kaukauna; N&M Napa, Neenah; Frick Ford, New London; Mike’s Cycle, Menasha; and Fremont Mini Storage, Fremont.
