New London teen charged with sex crimes

Deandre L. Owens, 17, New London, was charged Jan. 7 with felony sexual exploitation of a child, third-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and possession of marijuana.

On Jan. 5, Choices for Change, a group home for juveniles in the town of Lebanon, called the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department to report a disturbance.

When Deputy Cameron Durrant responded, he met with a 15-year-old boy who accused Owens of pressuring him to perform a sex act. The incident was allegedly videotaped.

Owens was subsequently arrested at New London High School. Police reported finding marijuana in his backpack.

Owens faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of sexual exploitation of a child.
