Truckers take second at Charger Invite

The Clintonville High School Wrestling team finished second out of 11 teams at the 2011 Charger Invite.

At 103 pounds, Cody Guyette of Clintonville finished fifth place.

Kelvyn Van Laarhoven of Clintonville pinned Nic Dumprobe from Rhinelander, qualifying him for the semifinals. Van Laarhoven later lost in the semi-finals. Van Laarhoven ended up with a fourth place finish in the 112 pound weight class after losing to Jon Smitts of Wabeno with a score of 11-6.

Clintonville’s Dustin Zarnoth finished in sixth place.

Clintonville’s Ty Plumb pinned Jeremiah Walters of Rhinelander in the quarterfinals. Plumb lost a close match to Braxton Potrykus of Witt-Birnamwood in the semifinals 3-2. Plumb later finished in third place after defeating Robert Rocole of Wabeno 4-3.

Jesse Huggins of Clintonville finished in first place after pinning his way into the finals. Huggins pinned Dustin Pochinski from Witt-Birnamwood and Cody Diestler of Witt-Birnamwood. Huggins majored Joey Woyak of Tri-County/Almond-Bancroft with a score of 10-1 in the finals.

After losing in the quarterfinals to Brandon Tousey from Oconto, Garret Cunningham pinned Rosholt’s Dathan Smerchek and Three Lakes’/Northern Pines’ Taylor Schmid. Cunningham finished in fifth place.

At 145 pounds, Clintonville’s Exavier Dimick pinned Joey Johnson from Elcho in the semifinals. Dimick later beat Nat Mortson of Wabeno with a score of 8-6. Dimick’s first place finish gave him his fourth first place finish at the Charger Invite in his high school career.

At 152 pounds, Jay Malliet pinned Edward Guth of Elcho in the quarterfinals. After losing to Tom Wessel of Witt-Birnamwood 19-5, Malliet pinned Jacob Reed of Oconto for third place.

At 171 pounds, William Davidson finished sixth place. Davidson pinned Kegan Crawford of Tri-County/Almond-Bancroft in the consolation round.

At 189 pounds, Clintonville’s Jake Reiter pinned Raythan Mann of Little Wolf High School in the quarterfinals. Reiter was defeated by Tommy Johnson in the semifinals. Reiter later pinned Michael Bailey of Oconto. Reiter finished in third place.

At 285 pounds, Clintonville’s Mark Butterbrodt was defeated in the quarterfinals. Butterbrodt defeated Emerson Hegeman by injury default in the consolation round. Butterbrodt later finished in fifth place after pinning Luke Mullins of Tri-County/Almond Bancroft.

The Clintonville Truckers finished second place after previously winning the tournament four years in a row.

The Trucker’s next match is next week in Waupaca.

JV starts at 6:30 p.m., while the varsity starts at 7 p.m.
