Bulldog wrestlers finish ninth

The Varsity Bulldog wrestling team fought their way to a ninth place finish in the 14 team Cutler Classic held at NLHS on Saturday.

Three teams grappled for the eighth, ninth and tenth place spots.

Little Chute (164) edged New London (163) and Brillion (161) for the eighth place finish. Coleman High School took the tournament with 354.5 team points and Menasha followed with 222. Sheboygan North edged out Weyauwega-Fremont 185.5 to 183.5 for the fourth place finish.

New London’s CJ Anderson took first place in the 160 pound weight class and earned 37 points for the Bulldogs. Anderson pinned Menasha’s Kyle Pawloski in 1:32, won by major decision 12-4 over Danny Weber of Sheboygan North and won by major decision 10-2 over Dylan Peter of Badger.

Trevor Strong took second place in the 215 weight class and earned 30 points for the Bulldogs. Strong won by pin over Hunter Roop of Strugeon Bay in :46. He defeated William Browning of Brillion with a 6-5 decision. Casey Haase of Weyauwega-Fremont pinned Strong in the championship round.

Andrew Ritchie took third place in the 285 pound weight class and earned 27 team points for New London. Ritchie pinned Nick Stelzner of W-F in 5:05. He also defeated Brandon Elrick of Little Chute, with a 15-12 decision and pinned Josh Giese of Sturgeon Bay in 4:00.

Bulldog Kevin Urban placed third in the 103 pound division and scored 27 points for the Bulldogs. Urban pinned Appleton East’s Alex Rabe in 3:38, and pinned Lucas Van Duerzen of Little Chute in 5:18. Urban defeated Darryl Thomas of Sheboygan North with a 5-1 decision in the third place match.

Jake Close placed fourth in the 112 pound division and earned 19 team points for the Bulldogs. Close won by pin over Noah Giese of Sturgeon Bay in :55 seconds and won by 5-0 decision over Badger’s Michael Coyne.

New London will travel to DePere for a dual meet on Jan. 22.
