The New London Intermediate/Middle School Show Choir Singers are proud to announce that New London Alumnist Summer Herzfeldt will be performing at their upcoming Guest Artist Concert. The concert will be held at 4 p.m. in the high school auditorium on Sunday, Jan. 30. It is a fundraiser for the show choir.
Guest Artist Herzfeldt, who graduated from New London last spring, is currently attending Belmont University in Nashville. Summer was recently accepted into the Commercial Music program. She loves the vibrant music scene in Nashville. She says, “There are so many opportunities here.” As a college freshman she is currently taking many required courses, but is also a member of the Belmont Pops, under the direction of Jim Kimmel.
Herzfeldt credits the New London Music Department with giving her a strong start in music performance. She participated in the Summer Show Choir program as an elementary student and was an active member of the Middle and High School Show Choirs. She was a member of the Kids from Wisconsin the past two summers. Kids performs throughout the state during the summer as well as giving daily performances at the State Fair. All of these performance experiences will culminate in a wonderful one woman show for the New London community on Jan. 30.
This is the seventeenth year that the middle level choir has been sponsoring the Guest Artist Concert. During those years the guests have ranged from Barry Manilow back-up singer, Kye Brackett, to a comedy troupe from Chicago, “Six Degrees Below Normal”; as well as many talented New London Alumni and high school students.
New London Singers Director, Lu Ann Rupnow, says, “This concert is a win/win situation for everyone involved. The performers get to share their talents with the community and serve as mentors to the young students. The choir members learn a lot from working with and watching the ‘pros’ perform. The audience gets a fabulous show and the kids get to raise money doing what they love to do.”
In addition to showcasing Herzfeldt, the concert will feature the premier performance of the New London Singers competition show. The students began working on the show in November and are very excited about their first public performance. The grand finale of the event will be Summer and the choir singing, ” Bridge Over Troubled Water” together.
