I-S boys get back to .500

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball season is on a mid-season roll.

The Thunderbirds handed Stevens Point Pacelli a 50-32 defeat Friday, Jan. 14, and also beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood 46-34 Tuesday, Jan. 11, to improve to 3-3 in Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play and 6-6 overall.

Three players finished in double figures in scoring and rebounding to lead the T-Birds over the Cardinals.

Brian Tap led the way with 11 points, while Bradly Hardel and Lucas Albers added 10 each.

Albers finished with a team-high 15 rebounds, while Hardel and Tap added 10 each.

The T-Birds held one of the CWC-8’s leading scorers in check, as Mitchell School scored 10 points, half of his average.

W-B outscored the T-Birds 13-11 in the first quarter, but the Chargers scored only 10 points in the next two quarters.

The T-Birds led 22-16 at halftime and 36-23 after three quarters.

Albers led all scorers with 18 points, while Jordan Beyersdorf and Hardel added 12 and 10, respectively.

Albers also pulled down 15 of the T-Birds’ 28 rebounds.

The T-Birds will try to make it three wins in a row at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at home against Shiocton. The second half of the conference season will begin Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Amherst.
