New London man faces felony OWI

Barry S. Fletcher, 47, New London, was charged with a seventh offense of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison upon conviction. Fletcher was also charged with operating after revocation.

On Jan. 11, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Lewinski observed a pickup truck fishtail as it pulled through the intersection of Pearl and Water streets. When he called the license plate number in to dispatch, he was told that it had an OWI sanction on it and the vehicle’s owner was revoked.

Lewinski pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Fletcher, who had a revoked license and six prior OWI convictions.

When Lewinski asked him how much he had been drinking, Fletcher reportedly said enough to put him away for a while.
