Accidents claim lives of two locals

Two area men died last week as a result of injuries sustained in separate accidents.

Westley A. Johnson, 29 of New London died Saturday, Jan. 22 after the snowmobile he was riding struck a trailer being pulled by a vehicle near Shiocton.

According to the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department, Johnson was heading Westbound on Kirschner Rd. when the snowmobile he was driving rear ended the trailer. The accident occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Kirschner and Rexford Roads.

Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Milford M. Stiebs, 69 of Manawa died Friday, Jan. 21 as a result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover accident on Jan. 3. According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, Stiebs was traveling Eastbound on HWY 54 in the Township of Waupaca when his vehicle left the roadway and rolled over. The accident occurred around 12:20 p.m. Stiebs was transported to Riverside Medical Center and later airlifted to Theda Clark.
