Village allows winter access to lake

Getting onto Partridge Lake to ice fish is now easier.

Earlier this month, the Fremont Village Board voted to allow winter access to the lake from Castello Street. This was done by plowing the snow on the street to the sides of the street instead of onto the lake’s ice.

Village Clerk Karen Looker told the board that in talking to the village’s insurance carrier, she was told there is no reason why the village could not allow winter access to the lake from Castello Street. Signage could also be included to let people know that is where they can enter and exit the lake.

Village Trustee John Kohl III said people had been driving over the concrete curb at the beach to get on the lake, noting that the curb was just put in last year.

When conditions on the lake are not good, the village will post a “road closed” sign on Castello Street.
