Cold shooting and turnovers turned out to be a one-two punch for the Iola-Scandinavia girls’ basketball team.
The Thunderbirds hit only seven of 38 shots and turned the ball over 31 times Thursday, Feb. 17, in a 45-23 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference loss to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
I-S trailed 7-3 after one quarter, 20-13 at halftime and 30-18 after three quarters before the Chargers sealed the win with a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter.
Elle Maus led the T-Birds with seven points, while Morgan Oppor added six points and six rebounds. Karina Welch led the team in rebounds with nine.
The T-Birds fell to 1-11 in league play and 2-17 overall, while the Chargers improved to 8-4 in the CWC 8 and 10-8 overall.
I-S hosted Port Edwards Tuesday, Feb. 22, and will play at Stevens Point Pacelli at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25. The T-Birds picked up their only conference win over the Cardinals earlier this season.
