Ehrenberg, Richard

Richard “Rick” Allen Ehrenberg, age 44, of New York formerly of Scandinavia, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 at his residence. Richard was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on May 19, 1966, the son of Ruby (Mortensen) and Norman Ehrenberg. Rick graduated from Iola Scandinavia High School in 1984 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art. While attending UW Madison, Rick was a member of the Crew team for two years. He then moved to Minneapolis where he was employed as a graphic artist. He enjoyed running and participated in numerous marathons including the Boston Marathon twice. He moved to New York and continued working as a graphic artist. In 2008, Rick was hired at Wallace Church Inc in New York, and became a member of their close working family. You could always rely on Rick for a concert, a great dinner or night out with friends. His desk was littered with pictures of babies and dogs, of his friends and family. He has managed to put together an amazing group of friends who are more like a small family and he was always open to inviting ANYONE into that family. That’s what made him so unique – no judgments – just open arms to anyone who wanted to join. He enjoyed traveling, and cooking. Rick brightened every day. He was just such a generous and thoughtful person, so full of life and humor. He is survived by his parents: Norman & Ruby Ehrenberg of Scandinavia; Sister: Debra Ehrenberg of Iola; Brother: Randal (Doreen) Ehrenberg of Waupaca; Maternal Grandmother: Mauritta Pezewski of Iola; Nephew: Jonathon Ehrenberg; Nieces: Rachael Ehrenberg & Leah Ehrenberg and fiance: Joe Dain; Great Nephews: Maxwell Mackey & Tegan Dain; Very Special Friend: Chree Taylor. Rick is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and friends. Rick was preceded in death by an infant sister: Susan Ehrenberg; Maternal grandfather: Albert Mortensen; Step Grandfathers: Frank Nelson and Ray Pezewski; Paternal Grandparents: George & Viola (Hartfiel) Ehrenberg; Step Grandmother: Esther Ehrenberg. A Memorial Service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4th, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday 4-7 PM. at Voie Funeral Home. And one hour before the service on Friday. Interment of cremains will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
