Unger, Alan L.

Alan L. Unger, 10919W County Road 442, Cooks, Michigan, died unexpectedly on March 6, 2011 at the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique. He was born March 12, 1947 in Waukesha, Wisconsin the son of Edward and Mildred (Reimer) Unger. He graduated from Weyauwega High School and later served in the Wisconsin National Guard. Al moved to the Cooks area 39 years ago. Al was employed by the Wisconsin Electric Company and later the Edison Sault Electric Company as a lineman. He retired in 2009 after 42 years of service. Al was a very active member of his community. He liked to help others in their time of need and during emergencies. Al was always busy and had a zest for life. Al is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jan Unger of Cooks: sons, Edward (Kerri) Unger of Manistique and E.J. Unger of Rapid River; daughters, Rosannah Unger of Coleman, WI and Sarah Bess Unger of Cooks; step sons, Travis Gauthier of Yuma, AZ and Justin (Fawn) Gauthier of Genesse Depot, WI; eight grandchildren; brother, James (Debbie) Unger of Athelstane, WI; and his sister, Tina Behling of South Milwaukee, WI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward; and his sister, Helen. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm, Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Congregational Church in Cooks, MI. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm, at the church with Pastor Lon Hider officiating. Memorial donations may be directed to the Inwood Township Fire Department or to the Inwood Township Emergency Medical (Ambulance) Service, Cooks, MI 49817.
