The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbird swim team recently wrapped up its 2010-11 winter season with a banquet.
All 60 swimmers received a certificate of participation, team and individual pictures and a record booklet.
Special awards went to:
• Newcomer of the Year: Hannah Wall and Tayler Carlson (girls); and Jeremiah Nelson and Simon Schick (boys).
• Most Improved: Elisabeth Sullivan (girls 10 and under), Tommy Sullivan (boys 10 and under), Mariah Wall (girls 11 and over) and Ethan Olson (boys 11 and over).
• Hardest Worker: Abigail Stevens (girls 10 and under), Eli Stevens (boys 10 and under), Kierstan Leaf (girls 11 and over) and Ben Gutschow (boys 11 and over).
• Most Outstanding: Jessica Gutschow (girls 10 and under), Marcus Glodowski (boys 10 and under), Teresa Sprangers (girls 11 and over) and Tyler Faldet (boys 11 and over).
Four swimmers – Mary Marx, Molly Kroseberg, Faldet and Sprangers – also received a $1,000 Richard and Lucy Wright Thunderbird Swim Team Scholarship from coach Dick Wright and his wife.
“It is a real privilege and honor to be able to award these scholarships to these four very deserving kids,” Dick Wright said.
All four are seniors at Iola-Scandinavia High School. Marx will attend the University of Minnesota, Kroseberg will head to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Faldet will attend UW-Stevens Point and Sprangers will enroll at Viterbo University in La Crosse.
