Indians heading to Florida

The Weyauwega-Fremont baseball held its first practice Monday, March 21.

The Indians will play 25 games this season and will open the season Monday, March 28, with the first of four games in Florida. The Indians will play two teams from Ohio, a team from Illinois and a team from Pennsylvania.

The team will head to Florida March 26 and return April 1 and will actually open up the season with a scrimmage against Belle Plaine, Minn., March 28.

The Indians will face tough competition throughout the season, including Division 1 state qualifier Merrill on Thursday, April 7. They will also host a four-team tournament May 7, as Wisconsin Dells, Westfield and Division 4 state champion Burlington Catholic Central come to Weyauwega.

The Indians will wrap up the regular season May 23 against Waupaca at Fox Cities Stadium.

“We look to improve on last year’s 14-11 record overall and 6-8 conference record, which landed us in sixth place in the CWC 8,” coach Jeff Fahser said. “We return eight seniors and eight letterwinners from last season’s team. Gone are seniors Matt Bruesewitz, who was first team all-conference, Cody Wilz, the coach’s award winner, Jordan Tolsma, last season’s most improved player, along with Jake Pagel and Taylor Looker.”

Back this year are seniors Eric Keenan, Cole Bosquez, Simon Gunderson, Cody Derozier, Tommy Meehan, Collin Tidwell, Mitch Beilfuss and Bobby Johnson; juniors Dean Holzbauer, Casey Lenz, Wes Alix and Treg DeSantis; and sophomores Tyler Hart, Trevor Potratz, Mike Goode and Hunter Billington.

The roster also includes freshmen Brandon Colligan, Jake Volz, Mason Derozier, Logan Erdmann, Andrew Wild, Zach Costello, Nick Walters, Cody Chase and Adam Krause.
