Glocke, Oral Esther May

Oral Esther May Glocke, age 91, of New London, died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Trinity Terrace in New London. Oral was born on July 11, 1919, the daughter of Herman and Louise (Manske) Ladwig. She attended and graduated from Emanuel Lutheran Elementary School and then, New London High School with the class of 1937. On May 17, 1941, Oral married Melvin Glocke in New London. For many years Oral was a stay at home mother, raising her three sons. In the 20 years following, she worked as a cook at Emanuel Lutheran School for the lunch program. Oral was an active member of the Ladies Aid at Emanuel, volunteering for dinners, funerals, and bazaars. She became “famous” for her blitz tortes. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Legion Auxiliary. Oral lived in her home on Division Street in New London for 66 years, before moving to Trinity Terrace over three years ago.

Oral is survived by her sons; James (Sharon), Green Bay, Gary (Ann), Plover, and Ronald (Ginny), Lake Mills; grandchildren, Bradley, Brian, Heidi, Gretchen, Jennifer, Michael, Philip, and Abigail; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephew, relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Melvin. A funeral service for Oral was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 E. Quincy Street, New London, Rev. Brian Hennig officiated. Visitation was held directly at church, Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial was at, Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
