Martin Krause has been named Resident of the Month at Iola Living Assistance (ILA).
Krause was born at home on his parent’s (Louise and Matilda Krause) farm near Almond and lived there almost all of his life. He and his three sisters walked to Boelter School, which he attended through the eighth grade.
Krause took over running the farm when he was age 13, when his father became disabled. He also took on other jobs including driving machinery and working at a cheese factory.
He met his wife, Elaine, at a dance and they were married on Oct. 27, 1945. Martin and Elaine have three children – Nila, Vera and Roy – along with 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. They still enjoy spending their time together after 65 years.
Iola Living Assistance, Inc. is a non-profit organization that operates the community-owned 50-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. In addition to this facility, they own and operate Butternut Ridge, an independent living apartment complex, and Living Oaks, a 24-unit assisted living facility.
