Michael D. Besaw, “Buzzy” age 61, New London, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 1, 2011, while enjoying his favorite spring pastime, walleye fishing. Mike’s last act on earth was to catch a walleye just minutes before he passed away. He was born in New London on July 14, 1949, son of the late Melvin and Ida (Buskirk) Besaw. Mike served his country in the US Army from 1969 – 1971, he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado in the 101st Airborne Division. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and numerous other medals. On August 21, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sheila Schultz in New London. He was currently employed at Sara Lee, in New London where he has worked for the past 39 years. Buzzy loved to hunt, fish and bowl. He was a hunter safety instructor for 15 years and a former member of the New London Fish and Game Club. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; two daughters, Tanya Besaw and significant other, Jason Guyette, New London; Tabitha (Steve) Meyer, New London; three sons, Jeff Guderjohn, Waupaca; Greg (Donna) Guderjohn, New London and Travis (Melissa) Besaw, New London. Two brothers, Marvin (Rose) Besaw, New London and Robert (Nancy) Besaw, New London; two sisters, Alice (Frank) Lenz, New London and Judy (Allan) Volz, Hortonville and a brother in-law, Dennis Herter, New London. Ten grandchildren: Jackie (Jake), Casey (Kyle), Kelly, Grace, Graham, Allaina, Myranda and Brittany; great-grandchildren: Tayjia, Isaiah, Aviyn, Jailynn and Autumn. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Larry Besaw, two sisters, Bonnie Besaw and Debbie Herter; a niece, Vicky Mehlberg, and a granddaughter, Alexandra Besaw.
Funeral services for Mike will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home with Rev. William Heiges officiating. Military Rites will be held. Burial will be held on Friday in the Northport Ostrander Cemetery, Mukwa Township. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
