Bulldog Softball splits games on the week

The Bulldogs played a tense game with the Marines AND overcame some fifth inning errors to come home with a 6-4 victory. The offensive production did not start until the fourth inning when Emily Gorges took a walk with a full count and 2 outs, Jamie Siewert singled and Kelsey Fassbender walked to load the bases for Emily Wilfuer who hit a 2 RBI single. The Bulldogs lead wouldn’t last long as the Marines took advantage of some Bulldog errors in the fifth inning. Sami Schuchart reached on an error, Rachel Thyne struck out swinging but the ball passed the catcher and the Bulldogs were unable to secure the strikeout at first. Brittany Wagner also reached on an error; the error also allowed the Marines to score one run. The Marines scored two more runs to take a 3-2 lead before the Bulldogs finally ended the inning.

The Bulldogs tied it up in the sixth inning as Niki Euhary singled; Emily Gorges drove her in on a sacrifice fly to left field. Jamie Siewert also singled and reached third base, but, while Emily Wilfuer was at bat Siewert left the base too early and was out to end the Inning. The Bulldogs allowed one base hit in the sixth inning and came into the seventh inning still tied at 3-3. The Bulldogs made the Marines pay for what they’d done in the fifth inning.

Mckenzie Dey singled, Emily Steffanus moved her over on a sacrifice bunt, Lexy Zaddack doubled in Dey to take a 4-3 lead. The Marines made some crucial errors when Brooke Fitzgerald hit a towering infield popup that was dropped. She reached safely while allowing Zaddack to score, the Marines made three attempts to throw out Fitzgerald but the ball passed around enough and allowed her to score giving the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead. The Marines were not done yet going into the final half of the inning.

Brittany Wagner hit a leadoff single but was wiped out in a double play attempt as Brianna Bell reached on a fielder’s choice. Nicolle Bezio drove in Bell with a double to close the lead by two. With Bezio on third, Emily Gorges was able to strike out Rachel Winters to end the game. Emily Gorges had an exceptional performance pitching as she allowed 6 hits, 4 runs only 1 earned run, walked none and struck out 10. Niki Euhardy was 2×4 at the plate while Jamie Siewert was 2×3. The Bulldogs are 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference. They played at West De Pere Tuesday and host Seymour in a double header Saturday.

Oconto Falls 1 New London 0

At Oconto Falls, the Bulldogs entered the game tied with the Panthers for first place. The game was wire to wire all the way to the end. The contest was scoreless and seemed to be going to extra innings but in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs Oconto Falls’ Kari Patenaude hit a walk off home run to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs had a better offense outing then the first time around against the Panthers getting six hits off the Panthers Ace lefty McKenna Larsen. Emily Gorges also did a good job from the circle allowing 3 hits, 1 run, walked none and struck out 5. Gorges also did well at the plate going 3×3 with a Triple.
