Lennon Gray, Sena

Sena Lennon Gray died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, June 17, 2011, in Waupaca, WI. Sena was born in Portage, WI on July 14,1940, the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Clifford and Jeanette Lennon. Sena graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison obtaining majors in Journalism and Political Science. She was also a member of Gamma Phi Beta. During this time, she met her husband Ronald Gray, and the two were married on August 25, 1962. Sena’s devotion to her family, faith, and community was evident throughout her life. She was a fourteen year Member of the Appleton Police and Fire Commission and served twenty years with the Silver Cross Circle of the King’s Daughters. Additionally, Sena was on staff at the Post Crescent from 1963-1966. She then retired to raise her family. Sena and Ron began spending their summers on Rainbow Lake in Waupaca, WI in 1972. In 1983, Sena became Xavier High School’s Director of Development. She was responsible for organizing annual fund drives, alumni phoneathons and Food Fair. She helped develop the endowment funds for scholarships and worked with benefactors to establish a Teacher Endowment Fund. Sena helped coordinate the meetings and business of the Xavier Foundation and assisted with the capital campaigns. After retirement Ron and Sena moved to Waupaca. She is survived by her husband Ronald Gray, her daughter Marta (James) O’Brien, their son Connor and daughters Caitlin and Shannon, Appleton, WI and her son Daniel (Paula) Gray, their son Adam and daughter Maria, Monona, WI. She is also survived by her sisters Lucy (Scott) Plummer, Sun Prairie, WI, and Mary Janet (Fred) Ott, Hartland, WI. She is further survived by nieces Melissa, Allison, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and nephews Alexander, Matthew, and Trevor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 24, 2011 at 11 A.M. at the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Father Brian Belongia will officiate, with burial to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. and again at church on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of the mass at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Xavier High School Scholarship Fund, Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Waupaca, WI, or Thedacare Community Hospice Foundation.
