Olsen, Clark to debate in Waupaca

The candidates in the14th Senate District recall race will debate at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Waupaca High School, E2325 King Road.

State Rep. Fred Clark, D-Baraboo, is challenging Sen. Luther Olsen, R-Ripon, in the recall race. The election is sated for Tuesday, Aug. 9.

The local debate is being presented by the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce Political Strategies Committee.

“Wisconsin will see nine recall elections this summer,” said Terri Schulz, chamber president. “And they could have a major impact on the political future of the state. It’s important that local voters know where the candidates stand.”

According to Schulz, each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement. After the opening statement, candidates will take turns answering questions prepared by a panel.

The public is invited to submit questions in writing to the panel for consideration. Questions may be edited for time and content as necessary. Sample questions may also be emailed to the chamber [email protected].

Each candidate will have three minutes to answer and, following the second candidate’s answer, the first candidate to answer will have an additional one-and-a-half minutes for a rebuttal. Following the final question, each candidate will have three minutes for closing remarks.

Craig Kantos is the facilitator for the evening.

No signs or demonstrations will be allowed in the building before, during or after the program.

Olsen and Clark will take part in two other debates prior to the election: at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, fat the Best Western Hotel in Portage; and at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Ripon City Council Chambers.
