Progressive senator topic at Winchester

Rev. Don Hinze will discuss the life and times of U.S. Sen. George Norris at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 25, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

Norris was a Republican senator from Nebraska who had a prominent role in helping enact progressive legislation during President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s. Norris also had a cottage on the Chain O’ Lakes, where he spent most of his summers when not in Washington.

Hinze is a retired minister who has spent years researching Norris’s local land national legacy. He wrote several articles that appeared in the County Post’s history column in Prime Time.

The program is hosted by winchester Academy and sponsored by Pat Hollenbeck in memory of her husband Skip.
