Hoppe Wesa, Lillian V.

Lillian V. Hoppe Wesa, age 103, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Larson House in Columbus, where she was active and enjoying life until a short bout with cancer terminated it. Lillian was born on October 21, 1907 to Elizabeth (Ebert) and Max Markhardt in the Town of Hampden. She was married to Leo Hoppe on March 20, 1947 in Waupaca and later moved to Blenker, WI where they owned a tavern for 10 years. In 1956, they built a home on Bear Lake near Manawa, WI, where Lillian worked at several manufacturing companies. They retired and moved to Waupaca in 1979, where Leo passed away on May 9, 1990. In a move to Columbus, WI she met Joseph Wesa, whom she married on October 5, 1991. Joe passed away on November 12, 2003. Lillian was a member of the Columbus Senior Center, Faith Lutheran Church and various Homemaker clubs. Lillian is survived by step children, Ferne (Robert) Doll, Joyce Longfield, Shirley (Leon) Jesberger, Robert Wesa, Joan (Doug) Kramer, Lynn Wesa; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eldora Edwards; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three sisters, Violet Stancer, Ada Kasuboske, Clara O'Brien; two brothers, Elmer and Arnold Markhardt; a stepson, Ralph Hoppe.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 P.M. with visitation beginning at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Jensen funeral home in Columbus. Sandra Scheible officiated. Interment will be at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday in the Little Creek Cemetery, Manawa, WI. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus or the Columbus Senior Center.
