T-Birds hold on for win over Pacelli

The Iola-Scandinavia football team moved a step closer to clinching a playoff spot Friday, Sept. 23, with a 21-14 win over Stevens Point Pacelli at Thunderbird Field.

The Thunderbirds improved to 3-1 in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference and 4-2 overall and need to win one of their remaining three games to qualify for the state playoffs.
Ronnie Knapstein scored on 1- and 6-yard runs in the first and second quarters to give the T-Birds a 14-0 halftime lead. Dylan Thorne returned an interception 43 yards in the third quarter to give the home team a 21-0 lead, but Pacelli answered with Cody Duranceau’s 3-yard run in the third quarter and Derek Kawlewski’s 5-yard TD pass to Jacob Feltz in the fourth.
The T-Birds outgained the Cardinals 180-81 on the ground, but Pacelli had a 110-49 advtantage through the air.
Brady Huettner led the I-S rushing attack with 94 yards in 22 attempts, while Knapstein added 46 yards. Spencer Erickson completed only two of four passes for I-S, but one to Andrew Bauer went for 43 yards.

The T-Birds will host Manawa at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, for Homecoming.
