Shiocton moved a step closer to a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference football championship Friday, Sept. 30, by shutting out Weyauwega-Fremont 41-0.
The undefeated Chiefs scored on their first play from scrimmage – a 54-yard pass from Talon Heinemeyer to Brandon Smith – and never looked back, as they built a 35-0 halftime lead.
Hunter Young scored on 2- and 1-yard runs in the first half, while Fred Fielding returned a fumble 48 yards for another score and Heinemeyer caught a 33-yard TD pass from Smith.
Heinemeyer hooked up with Hunter Van Straten for a 9-yard TD pass for the only score of the second half.
Austin Ferge led W-F’s ground game with 97 yards in 17 attempts. The Indians picked up 106 rushing yards, but could only muster 14 through the air on five completions.
The Chiefs outgained the Indians 306-120, but ran only 26 plays, compared to W-F’s 57.
Trevor Potratz led the Indians in tackles with six, while Jacob Radtke added four and Hunter Billington, Ferge, Andrew Wild and Ben Fox chipped in with three each.
The Indians dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in CWC 8 play with the loss and will travel to Stevens Point Pacelli Friday, Oct. 7, for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Cardinals.
