Brownlow, Margaret Jeanette (Kratz)

Margaret Jeanette (Kratz) Brownlow died on Thursday, September 29, 20ll, at Heartwood in Appleton, her home for the past three and one half years. She was born on June 6, 1915 in Neenah, WI, to William F. and Mary Amy (Hutchins) Kratz. Most of her childhood was spent in Waupaca. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1933 and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from Central State Teachers College (UW-SP) in 1939. She married Carl Byron Brownlow on October 26, 1940, at her father’s cottage on Stratton Lake, Waupaca. Following their marriage, Carl and Margaret made their home in Wild Rose. Margaret was a devoted wife and the loving mother of their four children, always active in community life. She was a member of the Wild Rose Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees over the years, as well as being Sunday School Superintendent; long time trustee and president of the Patterson Memorial Library Board, she also served as a volunteer in her retirement years; member and officer of the Wild Rose Women’s Club for over fifty years. When her youngest child was twelve, she began her career as teacher and librarian in the Wild Rose Public Schools, retiring in 1976 after sixteen years in the system. Margaret was an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed crafts, reading, playing bridge and travel. Above all, she cherished her time with her family, especially time spent at their family cottage on Stratton Lake. She is survived by her children: Mary(David)Werth, Weyauwega, Jean (Brad) Sherman, Waupaca, Charles (Sherry) Brownlow, Wild Rose and James (Debbie) Brownlow, Muskego; Grandsons Paul (Teresa) Sherman, Eric (Melissa) Sherman, Madison, Andrew (Stacie) Brownlow, Woodruff, William Brownlow, Washington D.C. and Thomas Brownlow, Milwaukee; granddaughters, Amy (Thad) Kortbein, Middleton and Rebecca Brownlow, Waupaca; one great grandson, Jonathan Kortbein and a great granddaughter, Pearl Rosenkranz; her sister Miriam Huth, Lafayette IN and cousins, Jean Hutchins Myers, Mary Lou Hutchins Lindow and Howard Kratz.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carl. Funeral services were held at The Holly Funeral Home, Wild Rose, at 11:00 AM on Monday October 3rd with the Reverend Alyson Janke officiating. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial is at the Howes Corners Cemetery, Town of Mt. Morris.
