County seeks volunteers

October 10, 2011

The Wauaca County Department of Health and Human Services needs volunteers to help provide services for the elderly and disabled.

Currently, the county is recruiting volunteer guardians who can be appointed by the court to make decisions for wards.

Wards are adults who have been determined by a court to be incompetent. The amount of time required by a volunteer guardian may vary with the needs of the ward.

Guardianship training is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Waupaca County Courthouse in lower level room 42. The program is designed to help volunteers learn what is required of a guardian. Refreshments will be served.

Reservations are required by Oct. 21 by contacting Amy Temby at 715-258-6341 or via email at Amy.Temby@co.waupaca.wi.us, or Tracy Wisner at 715-258-6355 or Tracy.Wisner@co.waupaca.wi.us, at Adult Protective Services.

Meals-on-Wheels delivery drivers are also needed in Clintonville, Iola, Manawa, Marion, New London, Waupaca and Weyauwega/Fremont. The program delivers meals to homebound residents between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Delivery times and length of routes vary by the local nutrition site.

Senior nutrition site volunteers are needed to help serve meals to seniors and pack meals for delivery. All seven senior nutrition sites need servers.

For more information on volunteering, contact Kristine Wiegman at 715-258-6277 or email Kristine.Wiegman@co.waupaca.wi.us.
