Chamber scarecrow contest underway in Waupaca

The Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce is holding its sixth annual scarecrow contest this month at area merchants.

The contest offers prizes for the winning entry and prize drawings for the public.

Each participating local business has decorated a scarecrow, and the public is encouraged to vote for their favorite entries by putting money in designated containers near each scarecrow.

The money raised goes to local charity, and the most popular scarecrow wins a prize for the host business.

“Even though this is one of our most popular fundraisers, it doesn’t raise funds for the chamber,” said Chamber President Terri Schulz. “Every penny counts as a vote, and all the money raised goes to the Waupaca Area Food Pantry. With the holidays coming up, the food pantry faces one of its busiest times of the year, so this is a good time for all of us to pitch in.”

Votes (donations) will be accepted through Oct. 31. Shoppers can also enter the drawings for prize packages at each participating business.

Scarecrows are on display at: the Best Western Plus Grand Seasons Hotel, Bethany Home, Big City Trendz, Farmers State Bank of Waupaca, Firefly Floral & Gifts, Furniture & Appliance Mart/Ashley Furniture, Goodwill Industries, the Hi-Style, Niemuth’s Steak & Chop Shop, Pep In Your Step Dance Studio, Studio 212 Hair Salon, Waupaca Chiropractic Center, Waupaca Woods Pharmacy, Weiser Graphics, WDUX and the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce office.

“No purchase is required,” Schulz said. “There are drawing slips and collection pails at each participating business and at the Chamber office. All of the winners will be drawn and announced on Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. on WDUX FM 92.7.”

The contest and prizes are sponsored by the County Post West, WDUX, Waupaca Buyers’ Guide, WSPT and the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call the chamber at 715-258-7343.
